Philadelphia was shaken by tragedy on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, as a mass shooting at Fairmount Park left two people dead and nine others injured, including three teenagers. Authorities are still searching for the suspects as the community reels from the violence.
What Happened at Fairmount Park?
According to Philadelphia Police, the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Lemon Hill Drive and Sedgley Drive during a large gathering of young people. Shots rang out suddenly, creating panic and chaos.
Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel confirmed that 11 people were shot. The deceased include a man and a woman, while the injured — including teenagers aged 15, 16, and 17 — are currently in stable condition at various hospitals.
Response From Authorities
Police have not yet identified any suspects, nor have any arrests been made. No weapons have been recovered at the scene, and investigators have remained tight-lipped about potential motives or persons of interest.
Fairmount Park was closed immediately following the incident to secure the area for a full investigation. Multiple hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Temple University Hospital, received the victims for treatment.
Community Shock and Police Appeal

“We are working tirelessly to find out who did this,” said Commissioner Bethel. “This kind of violence will not be tolerated in our city.”
