Two Killed, Nine Injured In Fairmount Park Shooting

Philadelphia police search for suspects after deadly Memorial Day violence

Philadelphia was shaken by tragedy on Memorial Day, May 26, 2025, as a mass shooting at Fairmount Park left two people dead and nine others injured, including three teenagers. Authorities are still searching for the suspects as the community reels from the violence.

What Happened at Fairmount Park?

According to Philadelphia Police, the shooting occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Lemon Hill Drive and Sedgley Drive during a large gathering of young people. Shots rang out suddenly, creating panic and chaos.

Police Commissioner Kevin Bethel confirmed that 11 people were shot. The deceased include a man and a woman, while the injured — including teenagers aged 15, 16, and 17 — are currently in stable condition at various hospitals.

Response From Authorities

Police have not yet identified any suspects, nor have any arrests been made. No weapons have been recovered at the scene, and investigators have remained tight-lipped about potential motives or persons of interest.

Fairmount Park was closed immediately following the incident to secure the area for a full investigation. Multiple hospitals, including Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Temple University Hospital, received the victims for treatment.

Community Shock and Police Appeal

This latest act of gun violence has left local residents in shock. Memorial Day, a time meant for remembrance and unity, was marred by fear and bloodshed.

“We are working tirelessly to find out who did this,” said Commissioner Bethel. “This kind of violence will not be tolerated in our city.”

Authorities are urging anyone with information about the shooting to come forward and assist with the investigation.
