Tragic Building Collapse Claims Lives of Two Sisters in Ogun State

In a heartbreaking incident that has left a family in deep mourning, a building owned by the Ayanshina family in Ojodu Abiodun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State, collapsed on Saturday, claiming the lives of their two daughters. The tragedy unfolded as a result of a mudslide triggered by heavy rainfall.

The victims, identified as 16-year-old Suliyat and her 25-year-old elder sister, Nofisat, were inside the building when the incident occurred. It was reported that the downpour began while the sisters were still within the structure, and the subsequent collapse trapped them underneath the debris.

An eyewitness, who resides in the community and wished to remain anonymous, as they were not authorized to speak on behalf of the family, described the shocking incident. He revealed that the entire community rallied to rescue the sisters from the wreckage, but their efforts proved futile.

“The sisters were inside the house when the incident happened. We all jointly made efforts to rescue them from the wreckage. We immediately took them to the hospital. It’s so sad that we lost them,” the eyewitness lamented.

Following the tragic incident, the family reported the matter to the police. However, the family insisted that the deceased be buried promptly in accordance with Islamic rites.

Confirming the incident, Odutola Omolola, the state Public Relations Officer, expressed the family’s wishes for an immediate burial. The loss of these two young lives has cast a pall of grief over the Ayanshina family and the entire community, underscoring the importance of building safety measures in the face of adverse weather conditions.
