Strange Owl Found at Lecture Auditorium at Nigerian Law School

An innocent owl has been killed by law school students of Justice Nnamani Campus, Agbani, Enugu State. An act which occurred at about 8:50 am on the morning of Tuesday, March 19, 2023, where students were waiting for Civil Litigation lectures to commence.

The rancor began when a student cited the presence of a very large owl, which was sitting at the inner exit of the class right above the exit door. The owl, which was very much alive but seemed to be resting. The student who first spotted the owl echoed a large scream, which called the attention of the entire class.

Due to superstition about the bad omen associated with owls by some students, some began to run out of the class, while others sought equipment to remove the owl from its position. The Class Rep of the Class, identified as Ekuaba David (Trump), had to remove the owl from its current position and drag it outside for the owl to fly free.

However, some elders among them, who are more religious than the pope, killed the innocent owl.

Some students have expressed their dissatisfaction with the level of cruelty demonstrated by esteemed graduates of law and aspiring lawyers of the Nigerian Bar. This goes to show that even with the level of education and enlightenment, students are more religious and traditional than rational.

It is interesting to also note that the economic worth and market cap of an owl is $3,000 (three thousand dollars today); the bird could have just gone free, and the said bird was not harmful. Despite our cultural and religious beliefs, we totally condemn the killing of harmless animals.

This is because generations to come might only know about these rare birds in books and pictures as they might just go into extinction.

We urge the National and State Assembly to make legislation to stifle penalties for violations of some animal rights because we owe a duty to our next generation and to preserve nature, except where it is injurious to humans.
