The Plateau State Police Command has arrested Sulaiman Yakubu, who has been charged with inciting violence and calling on residents to burn down police stations, military barracks, and business areas in the state. This arrest comes in response to a viral TikTok video where Yakubu made provocative statements ahead of the nationwide protest planned for August 1st.
In the video, Yakubu urged residents to “test the ground” on the Monday before the scheduled protest on Thursday. He explicitly called for the burning of “useless filling stations” in Jos North, Jos South, and Jos East. He suggested that this should be followed by setting fire to Yankwalli and Terminus markets, aiming to reduce these areas to ashes.
Yakubu’s inflammatory rhetoric did not stop there. He went on to encourage further destruction, suggesting that if any of their men were killed, they should retaliate by burning down police stations and military barracks nearby. He outlined a detailed plan for escalating the violence over several days, starting with local businesses and infrastructure and eventually targeting high-profile individuals.

On the fourth day, Yakubu proposed attacking bakeries where bread is made, should their demands not be met. He concluded his call to action by stating that if there were still no changes by the fifth day, the violence should escalate to attacking prominent individuals in the Rayfield area.
The Plateau State Police Command has taken swift action in arresting Yakubu to prevent the potential outbreak of violence and chaos. The police have urged residents to remain calm and refrain from participating in any unlawful activities. The authorities are committed to maintaining peace and order and ensuring the safety and security of all residents in the state.
This arrest serves as a stern reminder of the consequences of inciting violence and the importance of using social media responsibly. The police have assured the public that they will continue to monitor and address any threats to public safety and that those found guilty of such offenses will face the full weight of the law. i feel many Nigerians should know the difference between protest and riot.
