The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Ebonyi State Command, has issued a firm warning to its recently trained personnel that cases of accidental discharge will not be tolerated under any circumstance. The warning was delivered by the State Commandant, Mr. Francis Nnadi, during an official address to the 83 personnel who had just completed intensive arms training.
Speaking in Abakaliki during a parade mounted in his honour by the freshly trained operatives, Mr. Nnadi stressed the importance of discipline, especially when handling firearms. The training, conducted at the 14 Brigade of the Nigeria Army in Ohafia, Abia State, aimed to enhance the tactical capacity of the personnel in response to the growing security challenges in the region. “One should be more disciplined when armed, and you must make vigilance your watchword,” he warned.
The commandant emphasized that the NSCDC’s national leadership, under the Commandant General, is committed to rejuvenating and reinvigorating the corps across all states. According to him, the Ebonyi command is taking proactive steps to align with this vision, including deploying trained personnel strategically across the state to maximize their newly acquired expertise.
As part of its broader security mandate, the NSCDC in Ebonyi is collaborating with the state government to secure critical infrastructure, including the Chuba Okadigbo Airport in Onueke. Mr. Nnadi noted that the arms training will be crucial in fulfilling this mandate. “Criminals and non-state actors are upping their skills, but we have to be far above them to check their activities,” he said, adding that the performance of the personnel during their parade was a testament to the success of the training.
He further revealed that many of the trainees had previously undergone various specialized trainings, including special forces and counter-terrorism programs, which has now been complemented by this recent arms session. He described their display during the parade as exceptional, praising their discipline and operational readiness.
Also present at the event was the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Richard Idike, who commended the efforts of the commandant and congratulated the trainees. He acknowledged the pressing issue of rising criminal activity in the society and reiterated the need for continuous capacity building of security personnel. “The training NSCDC personnel underwent from the army makes them unique and the state has benefitted tremendously from it,” he remarked.
One of the newly trained personnel, Florence Nweke, expressed gratitude to the state command for the opportunity to undergo the training. She pledged to uphold the values instilled during the program and to carry out her duties with renewed dedication and professionalism.
As the Ebonyi command strengthens its internal security architecture, it is clear that the NSCDC is raising the bar for discipline, preparedness, and collaboration in combating crime and safeguarding public infrastructure.
