Originally from Dankunkuru village in Ungogo Local Government Area of Kano State, Umar was initially in Taranka village for a charcoal business venture. However, during his stay, two individuals mysteriously disappeared, raising suspicion among the local residents who began to point fingers at Umar as the possible culprit.

The Bauchi State Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, shared these distressing details in a statement provided to journalists. He explained that Umar was swiftly apprehended by police operatives following the incident report.

The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Auwal Muhammad, strongly condemned the heinous killings and appealed for calm within the community. He also cautioned against spreading unverified stories on social media, as this could incite chaos. Commissioner Muhammad assured the public that justice would be served.

The incident was reported on September 10, 2023, when a resident of Taranka village, Adamu Mohammed, reported that Kabiru Idi (36) and Bato Ali (18), both fellow villagers, had gone missing approximately one month earlier. Suspicion quickly fell on Ibrahim Umar, who had arrived in Taranka village for charcoal business around the same time as the disappearances.

During police interrogation, Umar allegedly confessed to killing the two casual workers and burying their bodies in a shallow grave on the outskirts of the town. The bodies were properly examined by a medical practitioner and then handed over to their respective families for burial according to their religious customs.

Further investigation uncovered that the accused had purportedly killed the two individuals with the intent of using their bodies for ritualistic purposes. A search of Umar’s residence yielded evidence of human blood, deepening suspicions regarding his involvement in these horrifying acts.

As the local community grapples with shock and disbelief over these events, the investigation continues. Authorities are committed to ensuring justice is served for the victims and their grieving families.
