Man Arrested After Fires At Properties Linked To Starmer
A 21-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life after a series of suspicious fires at properties connected to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The Metropolitan Police confirmed the arrest took place in the early hours of Tuesday, and the suspect remains in custody.
The investigation, now being handled by the Metropolitan Police’s Counter Terrorism Command, was launched following three incidents between May 8 and May 13 in north London. Authorities believe the attacks may be linked due to their timing and proximity.
The most recent fire occurred at the prime minister’s private home in Kentish Town, Camden, in the early hours of Monday. Emergency services were called at 1:11 AM to respond to the blaze. The London Fire Brigade (LFB) reported that the fire was quickly brought under control within 20 minutes. Although the entrance to the property was damaged, no one was injured.
This followed an earlier fire on Sunday, May 11, at another residence associated with Sir Keir in nearby Islington. That building, which had been converted into flats, also suffered a small fire at its front door. One occupant was assisted to safety by firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, but again, there were no casualties.
The earliest of the three fires took place just before 3:00 AM on Thursday, May 8, when a car caught fire on the same street as the Kentish Town home. Authorities are currently investigating whether this car fire is related to the subsequent incidents.
Because of the properties’ links to a high-profile public figure, the case was transferred to the Counter Terrorism Command. A police spokesperson explained, “As a precaution and due to the property having previous connections with a high-profile public figure, officers from the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command are leading the investigation into this fire.”
Starmer, who became prime minister in July last year, previously lived in the Kentish Town property with his family before moving into 10 Downing Street. His official residence remains at Number 10, but the targeted homes still hold strong associations with him.
On Monday, the prime minister’s official spokesperson acknowledged the incident, stating, “Sir Keir thanks the emergency services for their swift response.” However, they declined to comment further, emphasizing that it was an active investigation. No information was provided about who was in the house when the fire occurred.
The suspect’s motive has not yet been disclosed. The police have not confirmed whether the fires were politically motivated or part of a targeted campaign against the prime minister.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that might help with the ongoing investigation. Surveillance footage, witness reports, and any suspicious activity seen around the areas during the specified dates are all being reviewed by investigators.
The Metropolitan Police have reassured the public that they are treating the situation with utmost seriousness and have increased patrols in the affected neighborhoods.
As the investigation continues, officials urge anyone with relevant details to contact law enforcement.
