Governor Sanwo-Olu Takes Swift Action, Arrests Soldier for One-Way Traffic Violation

The Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State personally intervened to enforce traffic regulations on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. The incident unfolded yesterday when the governor, in a viral video on social media, was seen directing armed policemen to arrest a soldier riding a motorcycle against traffic, commonly known as “One-Way.”

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was reportedly on his way to the Lagos State University, Ojo, for the unveiling of the Femi Gbajabiamila Conference Centre, spotted several commercial motorcyclists violating traffic rules. The governor’s convoy halted, prompting these motorcyclists to hastily abandon their bikes and flee, along with their passengers, to evade arrest by the security personnel accompanying the governor.

However, one motorcyclist, later identified as a Lance Corporal in the army, continued moving against traffic. The governor, visibly angered by the soldier’s defiance, ordered the armed policemen to apprehend him and take him into custody.

In the video, the soldier was heard asserting his identity as a military personnel, to which Governor Sanwo-Olu responded sternly, insisting on the soldier’s arrest. The soldier, realizing the severity of the situation, offered apologies, but the governor remained resolute, directing the armed men to take him into custody.

Governor Sanwo-Olu then addressed the passengers on the soldier’s motorbike, expressing his concern about the dangers of such traffic violations. He emphasized the need for responsible behavior on the roads and warned of potential consequences for those disregarding traffic laws.

This incident comes amidst ongoing efforts by the Lagos State government to enforce a ban on commercial motorcycles (Okada) on certain routes. Governor Sanwo-Olu’s proactive approach in ensuring law enforcement, even against military personnel, highlights the commitment to maintaining order and safety on the roads.
