FUOYE Clears Student to Graduate After Re-Marking Scripts, Sanctions Lecturer

The Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), Ekiti State, has approved the graduation of a female student, Miss Ramota Olahanloye, following the re-marking of her final-year examination scripts. This decision comes after allegations that a lecturer, Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia, deliberately failed her in two courses for rejecting his demand for sexual favors.

In a statement released on Friday, Dr. Wole Balogun, Special Adviser on Media to the Vice-Chancellor, confirmed the university’s investigation into the matter. “The young lady’s scripts were re-marked, and she performed fairly better than the scores initially awarded by Dr. Anthony Agbegbedia,” the statement revealed. This revision qualified Olahanloye to graduate, and the management approved the immediate processing of her results.

Balogun disclosed that Agbegbedia had been sanctioned for his misconduct. However, the nature of the disciplinary action was not detailed. He noted, “The university management has given executive approval for her results to be processed. She has since commenced her final clearance from relevant units of the university.”

Olahanloye expressed relief and gratitude for the resolution of the case. “I am happy that I have gotten justice. I really appreciate the Vice-Chancellor for setting up the committee that investigated the matter. I was shown my entire results, including the graduation list with my name on it. I have started my clearance as a graduating student of the university, and I am truly happy,” she said.

Her father, Rasaki Olahanloye, also commended the university for its commitment to justice. “I can confirm to the world that FUOYE has served justice to my daughter. I was shown her upgraded results after her scripts were re-marked, and it is clear that she passed. The university fulfilled its promise to ensure fairness, and I appreciate the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sunday Fasina, and the committee members for their efforts,” he stated.

This development underscores FUOYE’s dedication to maintaining academic integrity and addressing cases of misconduct promptly. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of transparency and accountability in educational institutions.
