Dave Umahi, announced that the Federal Government is set to initiate immediate reconstruction of the collapsed Enugu/Port Harcourt expressway. The announcement came during Sen. Umahi’s visit to the site of the collapsed bridge for an on-the-spot assessment, accompanied by Gov. Peter Mbah of Enugu State.

Sen. Umahi assured commuters that the reconstruction of the bridge would put an end to their hardships, emphasizing the government’s commitment to providing alternative routes during the construction period. He stated, “We are going to work on the second bridge to ascertain its integrity and explore the possibility of using it temporarily while we demolish the collapsed one and commence reconstruction.”

The minister highlighted that the collapse occurred due to exposed pipes and revealed that the bridge, constructed in 1968, would be rebuilt promptly. He expressed gratitude to the Enugu State Government for their initiative in dualising the Enugu to Abakaliki town road, promising swift evaluation and necessary actions within the next seven days.

Sen. Umahi acknowledged the challenges faced due to the country’s economic situation but affirmed the government’s determination to address critical infrastructure needs.
