Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Arrests 41 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Warri, Delta State
Warri, Delta State – September 9, 2023 – In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) apprehended 41 suspected internet fraudsters in Warri, Delta State, on Friday. The arrests were the result of a meticulously planned sting operation conducted by the operatives of the Benin Zonal Command of the EFCC, based on actionable intelligence reports.
According to our Correspondent, the suspects were apprehended in a coordinated effort that saw the confiscation of various incriminating items. Among the confiscated items were eight luxury cars, including two Toyota Venzas, a Range Rover, a Lexus EX 350, two Lexus RX 350s, a Toyota Camry, a Mercedes-Benz C300, and a Mercedes-Benz GLK. Additionally, a cache of phones and laptops was also seized during the operation.

EFCC spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed that the suspects were involved in a variety of online fraudulent activities, including romance scams, identity theft, phishing, and money laundering. The EFCC has urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to internet fraudsters to the nearest EFCC office or through its official website.
The EFCC, in a statement, reiterated its unwavering commitment to combat corruption and economic crimes in Nigeria. The agency assured that the suspects have already provided valuable information during interrogations and will be charged in court as soon as the investigations have been completed.
