During a recent media interaction with journalists at his temporary office in Calabar, Governor Otu emphasized that there would be no further delays, as his administration is determined to see through numerous projects initiated since 1999.
Governor Otu unveiled a comprehensive plan for Cross River State’s development, including restructuring the state’s debt repayment strategy to create room for essential projects. The primary focus of this development plan is to put the welfare of the people first and ensure that both indigenous and resident populations benefit from the dividends of democracy.
One of the standout announcements during the media session was the ambitious proposal to construct a railway line connecting Calabar to Obudu. This modern rail system, featuring state-of-the-art electric trains, aims to alleviate transportation challenges faced by the state’s inhabitants.
Governor Otu stated, “While my administration is mainly focused on completing existing projects from 1999 till date instead of embarking on new ones, the construction of this railway line is crucial to alleviate the current transportation issues in the state. We are fully committed to not only kick-starting this project but also ensuring its successful completion within the life of my administration.”
In addition to these ambitious transportation projects, Governor Otu revealed that the state government has attracted an Irish Aviation Company to build and operate an Aviation Training School in Bebi, Obanliku. This initiative aims to transform Cross River State into a transit hub and evacuation corridor. The state government will cover the full tuition fees for all indigenous students enrolled in the institution.
Governor Otu concluded, “The sum of ₦3.7 billion has also been made available by the State Government for the completion of the Obudu Cargo and Passenger Airport, which is part of efforts to turn Cross River into an aviation hub.”
The people of Cross River State are eagerly anticipating the realization of these development initiatives, which promise to enhance transportation, education, and economic opportunities within the state.
