Bandits kill one, kidnap four In The FCT-In the early hours of Sunday, a group of terrorists launched a brutal attack on the Guto area of Bwari Area Council in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, resulting in one death and the abduction of four individuals. The attack, which began around 12:30 am, spread from the fringes of the Guto and Piyawe communities into the Tudun-Fulani and Sabon Gari areas, creating widespread panic and fear among residents.
The assailants, reportedly numbering over 30, split into two groups to strategically target the communities. Entering Piwaye through the swamps, they swiftly moved into surrounding areas. Tragically, Madam Alice, a woman in her mid-40s, was killed during the attack. She had been visiting her sick mother, who was being cared for by Alice’s brother when she was fatally shot. Alongside this horrific act, the terrorists kidnapped a man from the same area.
The terror did not stop there. Two more individuals were abducted from their homes in Guto, and another person was taken from Tudun-Fulani, located less than a kilometer from the council Secretariat. The attackers roamed the area from 12:30 am to 2:30 am without facing any opposition from security forces. A resident, speaking under anonymity, described the night’s events as deeply unsettling, noting the constant gunfire and the sense of helplessness that gripped the community.
“We couldn’t sleep from 12:30 am until nearly three o’clock,” the resident recounted. “At first, we thought it was the vigilance teams, but when the gunfire persisted, we knew the terrorists were back. We had enjoyed a period of peace, but now they have returned with more force, attacking Bwari from two sides. The weapons they used suggested they were well-prepared.”
Another resident of Tudun-Fulani shared his frustration over the lack of police response. Despite making frantic calls to the divisional headquarters in Bwari, help never arrived. “We felt so helpless because the kidnappers operated for over an hour without any challenge. When the shooting began, I called my neighbor, who said he had already contacted the police. We waited for 20 minutes, but no sirens or signs of law enforcement appeared. We called again, and they assured us they were on their way, but we never saw them until after the terrorists had left.”
The Police Operative are yet to make any official press briefing regarding the recnt attack but we anticipate to hear the government response on the incident in the coming days.
