Bandits Demand N40 Trillion For Kaduna Abductees- Bandits, who perpetrated the abduction of 16 residents from the Gonin Gora area of Kaduna metropolis, have issued a staggering ransom demand of N40 trillion for the release of their captives. The incident unfolded on Wednesday, February 28, when these criminals launched an assault on the Gonin-Gora community, situated in the Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna. As a result of this brazen attack, 16 individuals were forcibly taken hostage.
John Yusuf, a prominent figure within the community, disclosed the distressing development during a recent telephone conversation with The Nation Newspaper. Expressing the gravity of the situation, Yusuf emphasized the exorbitant demands made by the bandits, which included not only the astronomical sum of N40 trillion but also 11 Hilux vans and 150 motorcycles in exchange for the release of the abducted individuals.
“The bandits have contacted us,” Yusuf conveyed. “They are demanding N40 trillion, 11 Hilux vans, and 150 motorcycles for the release of 16 people they are holding captive.”

Yusuf’s sentiments echoed the incredulity felt within the community, as he highlighted the sheer impracticality of meeting such demands. “Where are we going to get this kind of money?” he questioned. “Even if we sell the entire community, we cannot raise N40 trillion. Even Nigeria as a country has never made a budget of N40 trillion.”
Furthermore, Yusuf recounted the harrowing frequency of bandit attacks in the region, noting that the recent abduction marked the second assault within a week. The first incursion resulted in the abduction of three individuals, while the subsequent attack saw the kidnapping of an additional 13 residents, culminating in a total of 16 captives.
Concerns were raised regarding the vulnerability of the community due to its proximity to extensive swathes of bushes, which provide cover for the nefarious activities of the criminals. Yusuf appealed for urgent intervention from the government, advocating for the establishment of a military presence to deter future attacks.
“We are pleading with the government to come to our aid by establishing a military base behind our community where the bandits take advantage of the bushes to invade our community,” Yusuf implored. “From our community down to Birnin Gwari, which is over 150 kilometers, is a stretch of bush.”
He further emphasized the urgent need for governmental assistance, particularly in fortifying the security infrastructure of the area. “We also have another stretch of bushes from Gonin Gora down to Niger State,” he explained. “So when the criminals have free access through the bushes to our community, we are pleading with the government to help us.”
