Apologise to Seyi Tinubu Over Kidnap Allegations, Enwere Tells NANS Leader
The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN) has called for an immediate public apology from Atiku Isah, a factional leader of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), over allegations linking Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, to kidnapping and violence at a recent NANS convention in Abuja.
Youth Leader Denies False Claims
Belusochukwu Enwere, National Chairman of YOWICAN, strongly rejected the allegations against President Tinubu’s son. He called the claims “baseless and harmful” to national security efforts. “These lies hurt our country when we need unity most,” Enwere stated.
The controversy began after NANS held its convention in Abuja. While members elected Olushola Oladoja as president, Isah – who didn’t participate – declared himself leader instead. He then accused Seyi Tinubu of rigging the vote through violence.
Seyi Tinubu Denies Involvement
The president’s son quickly denied any connection to the NANS dispute. Enwere defended Seyi’s character, saying: “Everyone knows Seyi follows the law, despite his father’s position.”
The youth leader urged authorities to investigate Isah for spreading false information. “Security agencies should hold people accountable for such dangerous lies,” he added.
Southeast Youth Issue 48-Hour Warning
A coalition of Southeast youth groups gave Isah two days to apologize. Chairman Eric Uwakwe threatened nationwide protests if Isah refuses. “We won’t tolerate these false attacks on Seyi Tinubu,” Uwakwe warned.
The group recognized Oladoja as NANS’ legitimate president. They dismissed Isah’s self-declaration as “a joke that insults Nigerian students.”
Political Motives Suspected
Some observers believe political opponents manufactured the scandal to damage Seyi Tinubu’s reputation. Several youth organizations have already pledged support for Seyi if he runs for Lagos governor in 2027.
Enwere appealed for responsible leadership: “We need truth, not harmful rumors that divide our nation.”
What Happens Next?
Pressure mounts on Isah to withdraw his accusations. If he refuses, he may face legal consequences and mass demonstrations. This case highlights growing concerns about truth and accountability in student politics.
The outcome could influence how Nigeria handles false allegations against public figures in the future.
