25-Years-Old Man Arrested for rape in Yobe. In a harrowing incident that shook the quiet town of Tudun Wada in Potiskum Local Government Area, the Yobe State Police Command has apprehended a 25-year-old man, Lawan Saidu, for the heinous crime of raping a 13-year-old girl. This shocking revelation came to light through a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, on a grim Tuesday.
Disturbingly, it was uncovered that the suspect had previously engaged in an illicit affair with the victim’s mother, an affair that ultimately led to the mother’s divorce. Seething with anger and driven by his warped desires, Saidu turned his attention towards the innocent 13-year-old girl. Exploiting an opportunity when the girl’s father had left for his shop on the fateful evening of September 20, 2023, at around 2030hrs, the suspect brutally attacked and raped the defenseless victim in her own home.
The victim, brave despite the trauma, reported the incident to her father, triggering a swift response from the authorities. The suspect was promptly apprehended and is currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Damaturu. Once the investigation concludes, he will face prosecution for his appalling crime.
It is heartening to note that the victim has been provided medical care and has been discharged from the hospital, but the scars of this ordeal will undoubtedly remain with her. Meanwhile, Yobe State’s Commissioner of Police, Garba Ahmad, has called upon the people of the state to remain vigilant against nefarious elements in society, urging them to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
Expressing his deep concern over the incident, Commissioner Ahmad emphasized the need for stricter punishments for perpetrators of such heinous crimes. He directed the officers and men of the Yobe State Police Command to conduct thorough investigations and ensure diligent prosecution of individuals involved in such abhorrent acts. “Justice should not only be done, but be seen to have been done,” remarked the Commissioner, underscoring the importance of delivering justice for the victim and sending a strong message against such despicable crimes. The community now waits for justice to prevail, hoping that this incident serves as a catalyst for change and a deterrent against future acts of violence.
